My brother recently wrote a blogsite www.underwhoseshade.com and I thought about one that would make a cool blogsite called "Shade of God". I was a former art teacher and would cover shade in my lessons. "Shade" is a color, especially with regard to how light or dark it is or as distinguished from one nearly like it.
And then I read John 12 this morning which was spot on to my thoughts.
v35-36 Then Jesus told them, “You are going to have the light just a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, before darkness overtakes you. Whoever walks in the dark does not know where they are going. Believe in the light while you have the light, so that you may become children of light.
I believe we are on a spectrum that goes from self on one end to Christ on the other. The more we have Christ in our lives, the more we reflect Him. We will have more fruit in our lives (joy, peace, patience, kindness, self-control, love, faithfulness, gentleness and long-suffering). We will never get to the ultimate lightness, but we can certainly gravitate towards that away from our own darkness.
"Believe in the light while you have the light". If we are Christians, we indeed have the light. We have to believe in it and that He can and will work in us to help us overcome our darknesses (anxiety, control, lust, anger, greed, etc.)
As stated in v. 35 if we are not walking with Him darkness can and will overtake us (as we see in the world everyday). Luckily we have a God of 2nd, 3rd, 100th, 10's of thousands of chances that I/we all need daily. I'm doing my best and trying to use His power to be a brighter and lighter Shade... of God.
