This rings true with me as I am somewhat of an artist (former art teacher). I am a creative soul and love a creative process. It is funny because with an oil painting I like the finished process more than I like the actual painting. I am also a songwriter, but I love the creative process more than the finished product (maybe because one of my songs has yet to land on a George Strait album). I love to put the puzzle together to finish a rhyming verse or figure out a melody to accompany the chorus. It is such a feeling of accomplishment when I finish a song.
We are all in the process of becoming what God wants us to be. Maybe we are a blank canvas or maybe our canvas needs some retouching. The fact is God wants us to continue striving to be the work of art that He has in mind for us. This could apply to us personally, us as a married couple, family, church, etc.
Once I worked on a portrait of George Strait (if you can’t tell, he is my hero). I would work on it, get frustrated, wipe his face clean, and put him away. I would break that painting out a year or so later and start again. I think I revisited it five or six different times before I finished that painting until I was satisfied.
So what does your canvas look like? I promise our painting is not done and our song is incomplete. I am not sure it ever will be, but God wants to continue His masterpiece in you. He is the ultimate creator and artist. He does not make mistakes, but can wipe away ours and make us a beautiful work of art.
Philippians 1:6 And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns
